It’s interesting that the author says modern discoveries are helping to refine the human story. I think I would describe it as revealing the complexity of the human story. If there is any hard rule in biology is that it’s messy, and it isn’t surprising that the human story would be just as messy as any other. Hybridization, introgression, dead end lineages, wild mosaics of features, island dwarfism, and so much more is now part of the story of our lineage.
I also have to wonder how many discoveries are already in hand but are awaiting extraction from the rocks they are stuck in.
I don’t envy the post-doc that spends 8 hours a day using a dental drill on solid rock.
