"Audi Alteram Partem" and Peaceful Science

Audi alteram partem” is Latin for “Hear the other side.” This saying is the current “quote of the month” on www.ce-debate.org and (as far as I know) is attributed to St. Augustine.

This motto is highly applicable to the mission of Peaceful Science, so I thought I would share it here for the gratification of all.

Great discussions can arise when we hear the other side.

ST. AUGUSTIN: CONCERNING TWO SOULS,
AGAINST THE MANICHAEANS

Here is a link (the quote here is translated “hear the other part”): http://gnosis.org/library/dedua.htm.

You will find the quote in the midst of the first paragraph (marked “22”) of chapter 14.

Until we really understand what the other side is saying, we don’t know what the disagreement is about. I’m on Ground, my friend.
