How Did Belief Evolve?

@Patrick

I’ve always felt that faith and religion were easy to evolve into a dominant position in hominid psychology. A tribe of people that felt empowered by a supernatural force - - if not entitled by a supernatural being - - would, “on average”, be much more motivated to move against rivals and to defend themselves more vigorously against powerful enemies.

The same could be said about the human response to charismatic leadership. The tribes that didn’t have the genetic constellation that supported charisma … and the response to charisma … would eventually disappear!

There is an older book, “The Faith Instinct” by Nicholas Wade which I can also recommend.
