In England, Atheists Win Battle for Secular Assemblies in Church-Owned School

As long as the Church of England is the official religion of the land, it is hard to object.

From a non-religious perspective, these ultra-boring religious assemblies work pretty well to get students to dislike religion.

A good point. I have worked in 3 schools, 2 secular and one Christian. At the 2 secular ones I helped out in voluntary lunchtime clubs for committed Christians. There was no interest in such a group in the religious school which surprised me. I had assumed there would be more interest in a Christian school, not less! I was talking to a teacher in my daughter’s Christian school who is trying to start such a group and his experience is similar to mine.
