# Why Do the Scientist-Christians Here Believe in God?

Is Denton “currently likely to be recognized as an exponent of fine-tuning arguments”?

In science, that would appear to be the [Rare Earth hypothesis](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rare_Earth_hypothesis) whose foremost proponents appear to be “[Peter Ward](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Ward_(paleontologist)), a geologist and paleontologist, and [Donald E. Brownlee](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_E._Brownlee), an astronomer and astrobiologist” who wrote a book _[Rare Earth: Why Complex Life Is Uncommon in the Universe](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rare_Earth_(book))_. The Wikipedia article on that hypothesis (surely a reasonably good indication of who is “widely recognized” on a subject) does not mention Denton at all – nor do the articles on [Anthropic principle](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthropic_principle), [Fine-tuned universe](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fine-tuned_universe) or [Fine-tuning](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fine-tuning).

Even within ID-Creationist Apologetics, [Guillermo Gonzalez](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guillermo_Gonzalez_(astronomer)) and [Jay W. Richards](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay_W._Richards), through their book _[The Privileged Planet](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Privileged_Planet)_, would appear to be more widely recognized as exponents.

It would therefore seem more reasonable to term this a “Brownlee-type argument” (if we take a scientific focus) or a “Gonzalez-type argument” (if we take an ID focus) than as a “Denton-type argument”.
