Climate Change and Polar Bears: Susan Crockford

First, my thanks to @Michael_Okoko and @Eddie for responding positively. That’s really all I could ask for. Intelligent people will disagree about matters from time to time. If there is never any argument, then one one both parties aren’t giving it their best. (That’s what I tell our junior staff at work - there should be disagreements, and we can sort it out in a professional manner).

I recommend that the moderators close the discussion. @Dan_Eastwood , what do you think?

@Eddie I think you responded to the thread of your own accord, and that it should be left open. It was the manner this thread opened that concerned me. However, your continued participation is optional.

I bow to your ruling. Hopefully this “thread by accident” will die soon on its own, by natural causes, due to its own inherent lack of interest or importance.

Not when we are artificially selecting for it

A post that has gathered 42 comments at the time of writing this post could hardly be described as lacking “importance”.

I can think of many debates on this site that have gathered many more than 42 comments that are lacking in importance.

Same here. However, the topic of the thread is an important one.

Private discussions are generally beyond my purview. I based my statement on how I would feel if it happen to me, to you, or to anyone else. We should be better to each other.

That’s my opinion, of course, and why I left it as a personal decision. I can’t really enforce people being nice to each other, but I can encourage it.

The content of the discussion was never part of my thought process. There was a public calling-out, and a suggestion of privacy not respected. I have no way of actually knowing what was private and what was not. I was largely counting on Michael doing the right thing, and much to his credit, he did.
