I think what @Giltil means is that the gears are observed to be parts arranged for a purpose. The arrangement of the gear cogs (two interlocked with cogs equally spaced) allows the insect to leap great distances. The inference is they were designed for the purpose of leaping.

I don’t see how that follows. I don’t see why nature can not do what humans can do.
