I would agree with that analysis.
I’d agree with that as well.
By the way, @Joe_Felsenstein, your name came up when I was discussing phylogenetics with a fellow – I don’t recall his name – at the Burke Museum members’ open house event a while back. Are you still at UW? One of these days I’d love to say hello in person, once we are allowed to see other human beings again…
…and ID as politics.
Puck_Mendelssohn: Am officially Emeritus (retired) now but do have an office in Genome Sciences Department and a desk in the Department of Biology. Am doing research. But of course Joan and I are self-isolating at home for the past two months and for all I know for the next two months too. Would be happy to chat some time (Zoom, Skype, whatever). You can set this up by emailing me: search for my own web page and then find my email address in my CV which is linked from there.
Thanks – will do. Obviously meeting in person is not practical these days as we are self-isolating, too. What a strange time this is!
And yet to the extent that Peaceful Science takes no solid claim to the middle ground (God’s design via Evolution), the more other agendas can “make hay” out of an otherwise logical position.
We have some Catholics who claim evolution FROM a bottleneck of two (a specially created Adamic-pair deep in human history)… while Behe accepts Common Descent, but thinks some parts of Evolution are designed and other parts are not.
