The document caused such an uproar because it encouraged more scrutiny and skepticism of Darwinism/evolution.

Except Darwinism has been dead for at least 60 years…

As every population geneticist with an ounce of competence will tell you, Darwinism is dead and some version of neutral theory reigns uncontested, only refined. This has been the real revolution in evolutionary science.

So it is worth, for example, engaging with The Neutral Theory of Evolution. A dissent from Darwinism, however, makes no sense.
