A Disturbing Comment on Interracial Marriage

Im sorry you have to deal with that. Ive had similar experiences ever since I started dating my girlfriend, whos Dominican. A lot of it actually comes from her family, as their culture apparently seeks dating whites as much as possible. It makes me very uncomfortable.

I am not at all familiar with those books.

Well, that’s encouraging. Mind you, I’ve only read one, the first one. But it’s really nasty. You should try it, just for the education.

As a white male here in the US I will admit that I am probably oblivious to much of the racism that others experience. That’s why it is important for people to speak up and show us where we can improve.

Racism is heartbreaking! @swamidass, I’m very sorry to hear that you have had to deal with it. I grew up in a church where interracial marriages were normal. I was grateful to see that picture of you and your wife. We need to see more of that!

I’m very heartbroken by the extreme racism that has occurred in our nation, and long for the day when we stop looking at people based on skin color! We’ve come a long way…but unfortunately there are still people who seem to perpetuate racism.

On a side note: I also get frustrated when people apply the term ‘racism’ in a political manner, which has unfortunately occurred within this thread. I won’t quote them though because it’s better to try and ignore such brandings. We ALL need to move past ANY form of ‘us-them’ attitudes.

Just read your comments above… Its not exactly “think-do” in South indian languages atleast.
The “do” part is combined with the word itself. It can be an imperative, saying : “eat with me!”
or a more polite way would be to say, will you eat with me.
Both meanings are conveyed by giving different endings to the word “eat”.
So malayalam/tamil will have several different endings for the same word conveying different meanings -
For example the word eat is never used alone. Its always the same root word with different endings used to mean: “to eat”, “would eat”, “will eat” ;“should eat” , “did you eat” etc

Its more or less similar in hindi as @swamidass mentioned.
