I e-mailed ICR’s support desk to ask if this had really happened, and received an admission from one of their system admins that the post had been changed for technical reasons. This was then followed by an e-mail from John Morris himself denying any such change had ever happened!
@Roy I’m beginning to understand why you have “30-year Veteran” as your title! I think I must have read that at TO, but the incident itself was before my own “enlistment”.
These are different species.
AIG/ICR etc etc are teaching organizations. They don’t have forums for the public which they run. Except ICR has some great technical magazines which allow scholarly criticisms in proper format.
Biologos directly aims at the public, especially Christian public, and has a forum.
If one has a forum then one is saying lets discuss/disagree/persuade.
When they censor its an absurdity to the agenda.
So i sum it up as they are less open to rebuttal or general conversations then YEC groups that don’t pretend to have open forums. YET when they deal with the public, or quote the opponents, they are open and free about subjects discussed.
I don’t EVER read facebook on anything. Those things don’t count.
You can’t defend censorship/punishment in forums WHERE the discussion is about the subjects they desire to talk about.
its a killer slash to ones credibility.
If you don’t know how to measure it then what is your justification for saying there is no change? I’d suggest that one measure of Biologos’s influence is the energy people spend attacking them.
False. I’ve visited their Facebook discussion forums many times. Opposing views from non-YEC Christians are usually deleted within minutes (and even posts which are simply sincere questions get deleted if they have the potential of exposing errors and contradictions.) Posts by atheists and very angry people, however, are often allowed—apparently because they help support the “We are the good guys; our opponents are the bad guys” theme.
Let’s see: several billion people use Facebook. Robert does not. Because Robert does not use it, the interactions of several billion people on Facebook do not count.
Since @Robert_Byers1 doesn’t think Facebook matters, I am going to hold on to my Facebook stock as it continues to keep my Net Worth high. Facebook is my fourth largest holding in my stock portfolio and it is has performed well.
It’s interesting that AiG/ICR keep saying that people should teach “both sides”, but they don’t seem to follow through on this core concept within their own organization.
I don’t know much of the various rivalries among the Christian sites interpreting Genesis, but I’ve always held that my interpretation (Adam as recent common ancestor / GAE) was the MOST Biblical one - that I compromise NOTHING when it comes to taking the Bible seriously, and that my model can deftly interpret many passages which give other models trouble. I think this is an important point to make when we talk other Christians who are not scientists.
