Discovery Institute helps the government attack leftists helping the homeless

I found this image earlier today and something caught my eye:

“In cooperation with Discovery Institute” — yes, that’s our Discovery Institute that helped put together a dossier of leftist groups helping the homeless. This dossier was recently presented to President Trump by TPUSA.

“Homelessness advocacy”? They really are just scumbags at the DI.

Those darned Leftists, feed and clothing the poor, protecting their rights as citizens, all under the guise of humanitarianism.

How is it, in the year of our lord 2025, I still get surprised by how disgusting these people are.

There are references within the paper to Robert Marbut, Senior Fellow at the Discovery Institute’s Center on Wealth & Poverty. I didn’t know that the Institute had a Center on Wealth & Poverty. I guess they are diversifying because I.D. just isn’t a hot and lucrative topic any more. The political arena–where one can solicit donations from the right, many of who are YECs and MAGA–is a better long term investment.

Since the Right defines leftism as support for feeding and clothing the poor, opposing cruelty towards immigrants, and defending democracy, it follows that they are absolutely right (or Right) about these causes being “captured” by the Left.

I would argue that they’ve always been interested in the politics, and maybe that’s been their main goal. The Wedge Document is a right-wing theocrat’s manifesto.

DI was a right-wing political think tank before they glommed on to ID as their “thing”.

The truly sinister thing that is now happening, however, is that they are equating “leftism” with support for violent terrorism. Hence the crackdown on anyone saying anything slightly uncomplementary about Charlie Kirk and the designation of the chimeric entity “Antifa” as a terrorist organization.

Wasn’t there a time when they were supposed to be researching Mass Transit solutions for Seattle? Talk about mission creep …

Yes, it’s especially funny (in a dark way) to me how this report tries to link anarchists with Hamas. Anarchists are famously supporters of right-wing authoritarian theocratic governing parties…

“They don’t force the poor to sit in the pews before they help them? How dastardly! We need to intervene.”

Indeed. I posit that they have drifted from their original regional policy and political projects to I.D. when it became lucrative and now they are drifting back to another kind of political advocacy which is more in tune with where the money is. Follow the money seems to be the common thread. (And I will resist the temptation to make a cheap observation about generating more wealth while criticizing those who try to reduce homelessness. I’m not saying some of those advocacy groups are not mistaken in their tactics. But it always concerns me when the right attacks potential solutions while presenting none of their own.)
