I think I am in general agreement with what you’ve said above. I think that we do sometimes make the mistake of taking abstractions and descriptive methods and usages of our own and basically reifying them. Now, honestly, in most situations, and when dealing with clear-headed people, this isn’t a problem, but it DOES come up specifically with regard to creationism because people mistake descriptive and explanatory expressions for the things which they describe, and the next thing you know, a creationist is demanding to know how “physical laws” cause life to originate or some such thing.
