Gee, I just visited the Oman across ages museum about a week ago:

There was not a speck of reticence about evolution in the natural history parts, despite a massive Islam exhibit. Oman definitely is neither atheist nor Islam Lite, as non-Muslims can be prosecuted for eating or drinking before sunset during Ramadan.

Maybe you cherrypicked Saudi Arabia and Pakistan because they are not modern?
