Jeremy Christian's Take on Free Will

It is beyond the norms, but probably fine leaving enough leaving alone.

Atheists will do the same thing sometimes. Funny how that works. :wink:

Curious; in what way ā€œbeyond the norms?ā€ In tone? Lack of question-asking? Lack of progress? How would you characterize it? Who would you reprove? Pretty sure theological discussions are not considered beyond the norms?

Much more attention to this question would get you much farther. It is almost entertaining it takes this long to see you ask a question like this. There are several ways people are exploring to answer this question. You are not the first to ask or answer it. We know your answer, but it does not seem you know any of the answers we have offered.

I am not repproving anyone.

I am observing that @Jeremy_Christian is fixated on several idiosyncratic details, even though seems genuinely wanting to engage. I wonder how he is going to open his mind here.

Pretty sure I’ve seen progress.

It seems like you are fighting. Not in a terribly nasty way, but enough to make me wonder if I should intervene as a moderator. If this groups is OK with with this sort of discussion, I’m happy to let you play ball.

I would reprove everyone - or no one. I don’t have time to figure out who is right and who is wrong, nor is it my job to take sides. My concern is that people should be treating each other respectfully.
I could close comments - that probably the only fair thing to do. But if everyone is happy, then PLAY BALL!!! :slight_smile:

I think this whole exchange should be shifted to an appropriately named thread. The problem is that this pattern is repeating several times on different threads.

@Jeremy_Christian, I need you to help us keep things on topic. If you want to restart conversation on one of your ideas, go to an appropriate thread. This thread, for example, is about RTB’s model, not yours. Stay on topic. Sound good?

Sorry, still learning my way around.

George helped me understand a few things. Up to this point I kept treading on what was described to me as your ā€œgoalsā€, but didn’t understand what exactly I was saying to cause this response. I read all over the site trying to understand, but George finally laid it out for me. I think this will help me with how things work around here.

It’s all a lot of topics that bleed into each other, being that they’re all so related and interlinked. I’ll do my best to hop around according to protocol and topic.

There’s reason for that. For example, in the middle of my exchange with George where he was laying out the goals of the RTB model, he said this …

So, which way to go here? I’m discussing my take of on free will (thread #1) in reference to the RTB model (thread #2). I was bated!

It was explained to me that this is one of the central tenets of organized religion that this model seeks to avoid conflict with. I assume you read through the discussion. I was speaking of another conflict that wasn’t being talked about, apparently. There’s some issues related specifically to the model as it was described to me that I am keenly interested in hearing your thoughts on.

I want it to be clear, I believe in what you’re doing here. If it hasn’t been made apparent, this is something very close to my heart. A passion project of sorts. This site is the first sign I’ve seen of something that holds the potential for real progress. Understand, I’ve been very alone on this front for a very long time. Your goals (again, as they’ve been described to me) and my goals are very much in line. I just stumbled on a community who shares my goals.

I’ve been campaigning for harmony between God and science for a very long time. Published articles, done a couple of podcasts on the topic. Two episodes of Dogma Debate, an atheist podcast that just moved to PodcastOne, if you ever feel like tracking those down.

That’s more the exception than the rule, wouldn’t you say? Most children when it comes to puppies and kittens are reduced to saps like the rest of us. And like that gorilla.

That’s a human child, by the way. There are a number of ways post-fall humans differ from their mammalian cousins. There’s a quote from the Matrix that applies here that I’m fond of …

Agent Smith: I’d like to share a revelation that I’ve had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you’re not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You’re a plague and we are the cure.

@jeremy_christian

Because without knowledge of the law there is no sin. Paul did NOT say that there was no sin because some humans have no free will.

@Jeremy_Christian

You misunderstand me… in part because i wasnt clear.

There is nothing for me to wreck… the wrecking ball is in YOUR hands.

@Jeremy_Christian

Let me know when you have read up on the Bible a bit more. Paul explains when sin arrives. You are lost in your own rhetoric.

@Guy_Coe

Well… almost.
I am here because @swamidass wants me here.

And i see RED when some try to hijack the group’s focus.

I want you both here. There is room enough for @Jeremy_Christian, but it would be nice if we can move past the same back and forth on free will.

This is pretty entertaining @Jeremy_Christian. There are a lot of theologians who have said precisely this. You didn’t know?
