Whenever I think the Trump Administration has exhausted its capacity to shock me, they up the ante yet again. Here is Stephen Miller’s response to Zohran Mamdani’s victory in last night’s NYC mayoral election:

I saw this and was also horrified. The response of this administration to the election of Zohran is, apparently, “we’re gonna kidnap your kids”. This should be a real “are we the baddies” moment for supporters of the administration, but of course it won’t be.

You will have to explain the threat to me, unless it’s intended as a dog whistle. There’s no explicit threat, and I would only see one if I knew that Stephen Miller was the poster.
I have to say this about Miller – he comes from a good family. I say this because when he committed his first atrocity, the Muslim Immigration Ban, in 2017, two of his uncles immediately publicly denounced the policy, noting that “we are a family of immigrants”. Too bad he doesn’t listen to them.

I don’t get his point at all. What is he trying to say with those stats? If it’s a dog-whistle I don’t know what it’s supposed to say either. It seems to be just dry stats?
Oh I get it now. It’s a deportation threat. That’s insane if that is how this is supposed to be read.
I see now that it can’t be anything but a threat, otherwise he has no reason to be quoting those stats out of the blue with no commentary.

Yes, the threat only exists because of the context and the person who made it.
Similarly, if a customer at your restaurant says “Nice place you have here”, it’s a complement. But if a member of the mob that is running a protection racket in your neighbourhood says the same thing, it’s a threat.
Can you suggest another reason Miller posted that immediately after the election results were known?
