The best part:

The vast majority of people who bring it up seem to think that it applies only to dumb people and that it says dumb people think they are smarter than smart people. Neither of these things are true. Further – if you think it only applies to other people (which itself, ironically, is part of the DK effect) then you miss the core lesson and opportunity for self-improvement and critical thinking.

Our general inability to know what we don’t know is a widespread issue in education. I would hazard to guess that for most of the courses I teach a realistic understanding of one’s own knowledge about a subject is more important than any “innate” ability.

So - the Dunning-Kruger effect is at work when people talk about the Dunning-Kruger effect?

I guess that’s a good sign. Self-consistency is the first check test of truth claims, after all.
