I remember seeing this recently. It’s the bacteria that process the methane, and the spiders get nutrients from the bacteria. The arrangement is much like how other animals survive at these vents.
Sea spiders are very very weird. They are their own group of arthropods. Years ago, when living in California, a recreational diver brought me a live one but I was unable to keep it alive.

Did you try installing a volcanic vent in your salt water tank? :wink:

In my experience the installation of a volcanic vent in your saltwater tank always comes in waaaaaay over budget.

This was a conventional sea spider. They mainly roam around on the sea floor and eat sponges.

Unconventional sea spiders, on the other hand, tend to not go out much and they like to brag about their WORDLE scores.
