Neuropilin-1 drives SARS-CoV-2 infectivity

Fascinating and potentially hugely important finding. If it takes time to find a vaccine (maybe a lot of time), therapies and anti-infection treatments will be crucial.

I came across this article on my phone as I was about to fall asleep. I shared it quickly so that I wouldn’t lose it!

Skimming through the paper, it looks like neuropilin-1 knockout cells saw a 75% reduction in infectivity. The monoclonal antibody and neuropilin-1 inhibitor reduced infectivity by 30-40%. I’m not sure if this will be effective, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they started animal trials before this paper was published.
