Some Comments from YouTube Watchers of the Tour-Farina Debate

Oh really. Exactly how was this done Ed? You couldn’t answer questions any first-year Ancient Greek student could answer. When Jesus commands his disciples to untie (λυσατε) [the colt] and bring (φερετε) it here why is the first verb aorist and second one present tense? Anyone can go to my Facebook page and see, charts, diagrams I made and essays I wrote about the Bible. They can even listen to hour long Christian radio broadcasts on which I was the only invited guest for an hour. Where can we see your work, Eddie? Where can we listen to you speak about the Bible or any other subject. You have no business criticizing anyone.

Eddie makes George Santos look honest.

I’m supposed to know without looking it up who George Santos is?

I’m fully cognizant of the differences between aorists and presents in Greek; unlike you, who have never been hired for any academic job anywhere, I taught Greek for several years. But suppose you tell us your profound insight into the tense usage here. You wouldn’t ask the question if you didn’t have an interpretation of it. Don’t keep us in suspense.

I’ve spoken about the Bible here, at some length, in many places, including the previous conversation with you. I’ve also lectured on it at several different universities and colleges, which, again, you have never done, because no academic institution on the planet considers you qualified to do so.

You seem to be desperately looking for approval of your theological ideas, and you seem to get angry when people don’t give you the praise you think you deserve. This is not a mature academic attitude. Get some proper training, get some articles published in peer-reviewed journals (not on your self-published website), and eventually people will regard you as a peer and give you the respect you crave. But if you just sit on your Facebook page complaining that the world doesn’t recognize your genius, then ten years from now you will still be where you are at today – ignored. Is that the outcome you want? If not, start doing what needs to be done to change it.

Taught Greek? Where? The answer has to do with imperatives and any Greek student would know that. Once again Ed: you FAIL. You are a hoot! The only place you may have spoken is on a street corner holding a sign threatening people with eternal damnation for ignoring you. I don’t have theological anything. I just know what the Bible is and what Jesus isn’t.

At a seminary within 100 miles of Buffalo, and also at a mid-sized university within 100 miles of Buffalo. I taught Koine at one place and Classical at the other.

I’m fully aware of the difference between aorist and present imperatives. You still haven’t told us what you think the significance is. You realize, of course, that in real scholarship (not that you’ve ever produced any) scholars don’t play “twenty questions” with each other, but simply state their thesis and give evidence for it? Just give us your argument: What do you think is the reason for the tense variation? If I think you’re right, I’ll say so. Or are you afraid that you can’t defend your interpretation?

The great thing about a forum like this is that no one can make another pay attention to rants, insults, and the like. It’s pretty easy to tune out the noise and focus on the good stuff. Surely Tour has the discipline to do this.

If one’s excuse for declining an invite is “bad behavior” I’m not buying it.

Of course, refute his points as you see fit and are able

He doesn’t have to debate anyone but me. Locked thread just me and him. I won’t throw insults or anything. He just defends the claims he made in the debate that I specified, and I rebut them. He doesn’t have to talk to anyone else.

Verbs of motion are almost alway found in the present tense form when using what?

Would you use your real name and identity if he would debate you? If not, why would he (or anyone) agree?

Computer science crops up here often enough, particularly in relation to genetic algorithms. It also crops up in your list of subjects relevant to ID (“chemistry, physics, computer science, biology, biochemistry, geology, etc”). So your separation of it is unwarranted.

Nor have I, hypocrite.

I discuss things with anonymous foils here (lookin’ at you, @Eddie). What makes Tour so special that he cannot do the same?

Isn’t ID allegedly all about information? Has Bill Dembski published anything in natural science in any real journal?

But you DO claim ad nauseam to know that person A knows more than person B, without demonstrating a speck of apparent expertise in the subject in question.

Ummm… no. The problem with Tour is that his motivation is not scientific but religious. Tour got all of his ideas about abiogenesis from some guy at a laundromat. So, Tour’s motivation is not scientific but religious. Like his twin YEC Ken Ham no amount of evidence could ever sway him.
Here, Tour recounts how Jesus appeared to him in his bedroom:
“Then all of a sudden, someone was in my room. I was on my knees. I opened my eyes. Who was in my room? That man, Jesus Christ, stood in my room. This amazing sense of God, Jesus was in my room. I wasn’t scared. I was just weeping. The presence was so glorious because He was there in my room. I didn’t want to get up. This amazing sense of forgiveness just started to come upon me. That was Him.”
It’s pointless to argue with someone who is that religious. He’s either insane, a liar or in my estimation both.

Yes. Of course. It’s my real name up here above. I am Mikkel Nif Rasmussen. I call myself “Rumraket” because it’s just a nickname I chose for myself on some forum over a decade ago and it sorta stuck.

I’m not your student and I’m not writing your exam. (Not that you ever have been, or ever would be, hired by any institution to ever set any exam.) If you have a thesis, state it. If you have no thesis to state, then remain silent. Working on the assumption that you are incapable of articulating any thesis, I will expect silence.

Yes, I would think so. You’re an American, are you not? Do you pay any attention whatsoever to what’s going on in your country?

Just curious, how do you know Boris has never had an academic job? Do you know who he is? And I’m afraid your claimed credentials count for nothing unless they can be checked.

No one here has invited Tour, so he hasn’t declined anything. I don’t run this place, Joshua does. And he’s a friend of Tour. Why don’t you ask Joshua to invite him to come here, if you’re so eager to talk to him? Joshua knows him better than I do. He would listen to Joshua before listening to me.

I’m a student at Rice and made this YouTube video talking about my issues with the debate:

I think more researchers need to be clear that this is not how research is done.

I don’t think so; Farina called him a fraud and a liar and as an undergraduate at Rice pointed out, those videos have millions of views. Many students at Rice formed their views about Tour from Dave’s accusations. If it was me, I would have participated. He shouldn’t have had to participate, but those are serious accusations. Maybe he is a liar; maybe he isn’t. Regardless, the fact that Farina uses such rhetoric on a regular basis makes makes me skeptical of the substance behind his accusations. The three things he brought up in his opening statement seemed to be in incredibly bad faith. I’m not trying to defend Tour or anything, but it is unclear to me that he is a “pathological liar” or a “fraud.”

I agree, Rimmer came across as very reasonable and I appreciated that he took the time to explain where he disagreed with Farina and Tour. Listening to him was a much better use of my time than watching the debate.
