I’m very interested to see how Greg deals with the KJV’s unicorn wording. (If he wants to understand their word choice, he will have to consult the very scholars he usually fears.)
Here’s a big hint for Greg: historical lexicography

Once you take the God- created-kinds- in- a -day means- millions- of- yrs -of -evolution log out, we can together easily solve this silly splinter about unicorns.
I have no idea what “created kinds in a day” and “millions of years of evolution” has to do with the KJV’s use of the word “unicorn”—but we await your “easily solved” conclusion. Please tell us.
Isn’t that what you already do? It would seem to me that this is what every single Christian has done since the beginnings of Christianity itself.
If it were not for scientific findings, would there still be those who claim the Bible supports Geocentrism? Absolutely. Geocentrism didn’t go out of favor because of how people read the Bible. It went out of favor because of scientific findings.
I believe…for the hundreth time…that science is a gift from God for intelligent beings made in His image to use and benefit from. The geocentrism thing- this idea was built upon a hunch by church leaders and others from long ago. Additionally, people living 4000 yrs ago in earshot of the OT Scriptures prob accepted this as well as the idea that the world was flat. When Scripture speaks to these folks, it does so in a coherant way, sometimes borrowing phenominal language to help make sense of unrelated Biblical principle about Gods power, sovereignty etc.
But Scripture does not say that God made the earth flat and that the universe revolves about it. In fact, Scripture supports the idea of a universe that had a beginning, the earth being round, and the universe expanding. On top of this, Scripture supports the idea that God created plants and animals according to their kind and evidence is being added that points to this and away from universal common decent.
I agree w you that Scripture is not a science textbook. I am too reverent to the Only God who has done great works in my life to just allow science to rewrite Scripture. Scriptural principle suggests that the science and opinions of man should submit to God and His Word.
That is an interesting reply. At least from where I sit, it would seem that you are not allowing God to rewrite your interpretation of scripture based on the creation He made.
Hey now…dont put words in my mouth! Good theologians who choose treat the Bible as the inerrant Word of God are my superheros! Dr. Edwin Yamauchi was one of those i knew in college. When i study Scripture, when viewing certain passages that i want to learn from, i hit esword for 5 commentaries by theologians while prayerfully seeking His wisdom over the passage.
Then there are theologians who submit scripture to science, culture, politics, literature. They dont make the hero list.
Would you at least agree that it is very possible that the creation He made and your interpretation thereof may be quite different animals? Scripture says that Eve was made from the rib of Adam. Whose to say that God did not instantly create a dog from a cat from a reptile from a…this could cause us to think that they evolved from one another via genetics but the reality may be quite opposing. The God who can create a cosmos in the beginning-for you this is the “big bang”- could create anything and in timeframes via a million differing methods that perhaps embody a 6th, 7th or 8th dimension that science does not have a clue. Someday i will meet God face to face, and i want to humbly relay to Him that i trusted Him at His Word even though the world called this foolish. I dont think He will be too upset if i got a few items wrong here and there.
Oh, come on! You’ve gotta be freaking kidding me!
Explain yourself better
This is what we’ve been saying all this time!
Now, I have to ask you something: do you accept Trinity?
This is what i mean:
Job 9:
He is wise in heart and mighty in strength
—who has hardened himself against him, and succeeded?—
5 he who removes mountains, and they know it not,
when he overturns them in his anger,
6 who shakes the earth out of its place,
and its pillars tremble;
7 who commands the sun, and it does not rise;
This passage is NOT intended to specifically define that the sun revolves around the earth. Rather it uses everyday accepted phenomena by average folks to relay scriptural principle unrelated to the the phenomena. In this case, the principle attempted to be relayed is about Gods power.
Selah. Let the blabbermouths shut up and listen to the above. It is good. And a good place to say “Let him who has ears to hear, hear what the Spirit is saying.” Sometimes Greg, you do come up with some very good points. Thanks.
Thanks. I dont look at those who oppose me as “blabbermouths” nor do i demand that they “shut up” i have no ill will towards any here. I even think i would enjoy hanging w some of the more vocal atheists like my friend from Jersey ![]()
I realize that there will be principles in Scripture that will be hard to digest in the eyes of science. The gospel will seem foolish in the eyes of unbelievers too. We as Christians are called to represent Christ at His Word with love… and sorry but calling one a “blabbermouth” may not fit well into that form.
I attend an e free church. Where do you, attend if you dont mind my asking?

You don’t want to grab a couple of cold ones with Greg? ![]()
I was a founding member of an EFC and am currently a member of another one. I was ordained elsewhere but have a long history as a minister working within the EFC of America. Sorry to shock you, Greg.
Sure, I’ll even buy at church turned bar in Keyport, NJ.
Bring the whole family on Blasphemy Sunday’s.

To any YEC’s contemplating about whether to take the family to Ark Encounter in Kentucky this summer, come to New Jersey instead. I’ll take you to the converted church to restaurant/bar above as well as to the Horn Antenna and Bellworks in Holmdel NJ.

That is one impressive antenna, but I am a radio geek and an astronomy geek. The receiver was built right into it so no feed line loss. A lot of good ideas.
Why should this be surprising? The church of attendance does not make the man. And a church label does not mean much sometimes either. I first attended a particular free church as a kid, then another e free church that is the daughter church of the first that was led by Jonathan Burnam after college. His dad started Burnam ministries intl. Are you familiar? Now we attend a free church, also a daughter church of the first in northern KY. Such a solid church with a great counseling ministry. They are currently involved in their second church plant and growing as they adhere to the full counsel of Scripture. When we are in TN, we attend a small baptist church that is amazingly solid in its theology and ministry. The senior pastor is flailing in health but one of the elders is such a gifted leader who preaches…i love to be in Tn just to visit w our church family there.
