Can we cease this aspect of the discussion. People are so invested now, that wars may start over this. Clearly T_Aquaticus intended that the outcome was known in his example, whether or not Mung read it that way. Just leave it be and move on.

Correct. In the lottery example we know the outcomes. The same applies to biology. The species we see today are the known outcomes. That is why the two are analogous.

From my knowledge of quantum mechanics, this is the case. When a wave function is collapsed the result is known by the system. An photon hitting the photographic film in the double slit experiment is an occurrence and makes the result known in the system.

Now, see what I mean. Instead of Joe Smith explained this, I now have to ask who! Active voice, less words, more info.
