Sounds interesting. Endothelin receptors are apparently GPC receptors, so likely just originated by duplication. I gather it was the peptide ligands that are thought to have emerged “de novo”.
Interesting, but a victim of university press release hype. I wonder what the real paper says. Let us recall that neural crest develops into a lot of the same sorts of tissues that regular ectoderm and mesoderm also do.
