It’s meaningfully relevant because if "NASA is seriously considering sending New Horizons to another star to study its exoplanet", then Gonzales was correct and I erred in the OP. Maintaining both intellectual honesty and my claim that Gonzales is wrong requires examination and refutation of that counterclaim.
As a bonus, I learnt more about New Horizons and Proxima Centauri.
