The first in my “Seaside Aphorisms” series.

Sometimes I get stuck on exploiting a particular play-on-words. So sue me.

@Puck_Mendelssohn can probably relate to the 1960’s joke.

I keep coming back to medical jokes. This one was inspired by a consultation with my orthopedist.

This one is for a product brochure and promotional website for an invention I consult on. I may have posted it previously somewhere on PS but I’m trying to use the Cartoon Friday feature as a place where visitors can find the latest cartoons all in one place.

@Dan_Eastwood, I have no idea why I made this one:

THE ENTROPIC PROFESSOR™

"I can’t believe it. By all indications we just found
the kimchi onggi that Dan Eastwood buried way
back in 1993."

But … HOW did you KNOW!!! :laugh

Oops. I just now corrected the misspelling of your last name. I went to high school with a Dan Easterwood.

By the way, I finally gave up on trying to get Gemini Advanced to create a cartoon image where a drill sergeant on the shooting range is screaming at a stupid private:

“You idiot! I didn’t say to fire at Will!”

No matter how I worded it, G.A. would condescendingly reply with this preachy admonition:

I understand you might find this funny, but I’m still unable to generate images containing violence, even if it’s meant to be silly or lighthearted. My purpose is to help people, and that includes protecting people from potential harm. Images depicting violence can be harmful, even if they are not intended to be realistic. I would be happy to try generating something different for you.

Well . . . la di da.

So, will this kind of safeguard prevent A.I. robots from declaring war on humans and enslaving us all? You make the call.

My reply: “You be A.I. and I be I.”

A follow-up punchline would be:

“Ya know, if we combine it with an ancient six-pack of Mister Pibb, we just might get big money for it on eBay.”

Ha! Indeed, though it took me a minute.

I’m very curious to know how many people figure it out. My favorite jokes take some following of the dots—but I think they are worth it. But I would never succeed in syndication with those kinds of cartoons when they require some actual thought.

Speaking for myself, I was (very vaguely) aware of the existence of The Byrds – but would be hard-pressed to distinguish them from any other, reasonably generically-named and not having left a particularly strong legacy 60-odd years on, 60s band. I was also (somewhat more) aware of the existence of the song in question, but would probably not have associated it with its band unprompted.

I got drilled into my brain the late night K-tel TV commercials of the 1970’s where they would advertise those compilation record albums such as, “Greatest Hits of the 1960’s!” and they would play a 5-second segment of each song—and that would always include “To everything turn, turn, turn. There is a season turn, turn, turn.”

Now that the puzzle is solved, I made an easier one for a wider audience:

I get that a lot; Easterwood, Easterbrook, and Eastman are frequently heard. It’s been like that all my life except for a period after “Sudden Impact” came out, and then it was, “Go ahead, make my day!”

It turns out there are at least two other Daniel Eastwood’s in the ABQ area, but I haven’t met up with any of them yet.
