So, a fairly contentious thread opened on facebook on myself and @Agauger . I debated joining in, but there might be too much heat to engage deeply. We will see. If any of you are willing to help separate what we are doing from ID and AIG, that would be helpful. Thanks.
Wow. How embarrassing. Donāt bother. They are laughing and saying BS but not explaing why that is so. The majority seem to think Christianity == YEC. I donāt think any effort should be wasted on them
Thatās a Brockian Ultracricket group. Iād stay out unless you have a good supply of hockey sticks.
It would honestly be nice if one or two brave atheists when there and clarified that I am not AIG or ID. I know that is asking a lotā¦
Done. CWC has been trolling a lot of the FB groups lately. I should look to see if she might be a sockpuppet for one of the serial trolls.
Thank you Dan, I appreciate it.
No, too many details going back years. She is for realz.
So I did post one thing, which I expect to be my last on that thread:
Hello, I was alerted to this thread and will make one clarifying comment. Peaceful Science is trying to map a better way forward, where science is a secular common ground for people with many different points of view. We do not always come to the same answers, but the same grand questions draw us all.
To clarify who I am and my personal views, I am not not part of AIG or DI or the Biologic Institute. I affirm common descent and evolutionary science. I am a practicing scientist who has also cared to be honest with the public about what science does and does not say. For this reason I have been explaining publicly what I see as large errors in the ID movement and creationism.
I also have worked with scientists across the spectrum to clarify what exactly population genetics does and does not tell us. Though I disagree with Gauger on many things, she isnāt wrong everything. The contributions Iāve made here, and this assessment, are well accepted by my peers, no matter what their religious affiliation. If you care about the science here, there is much to learn. Come learn with us.
For those here that care to know more about the science, I welcome you dialogue with us at the Peaceful Science forum. We are a community of people with diverse beliefs, and include many atheists and agnostics alongside believers. You are welcome if you want to seek peace too. [https://discourse.peacefulscience.org/]
@Swamidass: Iād like to recommend this FB group to you: https://www.facebook.com/groups/EvolutionVsCreationism/
The group creator/Admin, Richard White, is a retired museum curator and very knowledgeable.
One comment from me (and one from Dan) and that conversation turned a 180. Iām dizzy. Very interesting.
Your comment deleted, AND your question asking it it was deleted. The thread is still there.
That is pretty stunning. What gives? Glad I put one of my comments here.
Another Admin might have interpreted you comments as fishing for members at PS. Posting about your facebook group on someone elseās facebook is sometimes seems as Spam or trying to steal members.
That shouldnāt apply here, but itās the best Iāve got. ![]()
Very poor form, especially after essentially slander on that thread.
[Eric Goberman ] Apparently a new group to lie about science for their faith
(edit: I originally copied too much.)
Eric Goberman is usually OK, not sure what got into him today.
Ouch! I have to think that there are people who are drawn to that kind of acrimonious skull-bashing ādiscourseā⦠and then there would be others whoād actually like to dialog. So, hopefully we can get the word out and over time some people will get tired of the screaming inside the echo chamber and come over for a conversation.
I also reached out Capeilano. I hope she comes.
Goberman is usually very reasonable, not so Capeilano.
@Michael_Callen it is with good reason I referred to this as a Brockian Ultracricket group. :-/
FWIW, here is my very small FB group, where I have gathered a small group of very strong evolution advocates, ranging from a Methodist Minister to a Militant atheist. All very smart people, but with some tendency to ⦠disagree.
