Gauger: Answering Art Hunt on Real Time Evolution

If Denton is a Deist you might want to inform Wikipedia of this and numerous other sources on internet as they state him as Agnostic.

In case there is any doubt on the matter: I am questioning Ann Gauger’s integrity. Though that is only one possible explanation for her behaviour in this discussion. It is also possible that she is as challenged in her understanding of the basics of the scientific method as her comments here would indicate. I remain agnostic on the question of which is the better explanation.

I would hope that the integrity of any scientist, regardless of her position on a particular issue, would be questioned if she as routinely misled and misinformed her readers as Ann does.

I figured that out long back.

Edit: @Faizal_Ali: Since you liked my post, let me just clarify that i wasnt giving you a compliment.

So you are OK with scientists misrepresenting the research of others, whether they are doing it deliberately or inadvertently? You don’t think this should be called out?

Hi “Ant-Creationist Atheist”. Since you’re the one my initial comment was directed at, speaking for myself - NO its not OK with scientists misrepresenting the research of others and wish @Agauger would have stuck it out longer to defend her position more which is a shame she bailed (maybe due to employment with DI?) That aside, again there several people who are ID supporters and Scientists who are non religious. I think ID has some interesting ideas but they need to step up to the plate and do some serious credible Scientific research which hopefully is happening on the sidelines. If it is not happening on sideline, they won’t last much longer as a propaganda machine

Personal note: Have you ever considered loosing the sub title in your handle, at least on this forum as there are alot of smart people here who are “Creationists” Extremism goes both ways.

You underestimate the power and longevity of propaganda machines.

These are not self-selected, and rather difficult to change if someone is unhappy with their bestowed title.

It’s been going on for 20 years so far, without a scrap of credible scientific research, but tons or propaganda. How much longer do you reckon we should wait?

Ii actually have no idea how I got that sub-title. I didn’t choose it myself. That said, I’m fine with it. There may be some creationists who are intelligent, but they don’t use their intelligence when they accept creationism. including in the form of ID.

I gave it to you, back when you first joined, and you were very described by it. You have certainly changed your approach. I will change it.

What should @lou’s title be? Can you tell us about yourself @lou?

I think I preferred my previous title. I don’t see what I’ve changed my approach that renders “physician” a more accurate term than “anti-creationist.” I remain anti-creationist, and almost all of my posts have been about that, and little about medicine.

Why do you get to choose our titles, anyway? Shouldn’t we get to choose for ourselves?

If people chose their own titles we would see absurdities like “defender of truth” and "greatest scientist on earth’. The titles are not mean to be vanity labels, but to be good descriptions of where people are coming from in the conversation.

Why do we need titles at all? All that can come of it is “poisoning the well” and having people focus on the labels you assign instead of the contents of what they post.

I believe identies, affiliations, and expertise are important context for interpreting comments. No identity is fixed, and I am happy to change titles to reflect current reality.

Maybe so, but a possible indicator ID may be fading is visits and participation has dropped at Uncommon Descent.

Why? It seems like you are just propagating the “argument from authority” fallacy.

Hi Joshua,

Nothing exciting to tell. Just a casual observer. Am a Christian (not YEC) I have been following ID for about 10 years. Have no scientific background, but do like Science. Great job on the Forum. Very interesting conversations and people here.

You discount comments from people employed by ID organizations. So I’m not sure what your complaint is. You also have the most nodescript title we could find.

No I don’t. I deal with the (usually dishonest) claims made in their posts.

It’s your site and you can label people however you want but it sure seems to serve no purpose except to help bias discussions from the get go.

If someone chose “greatest scientist on earth” as his title, the one thing about him of which I would be certain is that he is not the greatest scientist on earth.

In any event, if it makes any difference to you, I’d rather not be identified as “atheist.” That is not the foundation on which my comments here are primarily based.

What is the foundation?

Science.
