Because it is an example of so-called biblical Judeao Christian values being superseded by more tolerant, more just secular humanist values in today’s society. Christians will split on this issue like they did over slavery, civil rights, and woman’s rights. In time, secular values will prevail over biblical values.

There is still the problem of Jesus not fulfilling many of the messianic prophecies. Getting back to the topic, Zionist movements are heavily tied into messianic and apocalyptic prophecies and they continue to influence Middle Eastern politics.
