Continuing the discussion from Islamic Scholars Were Writing About Human Evolution in 800 AD:
@Roels_Major as one of the first Islamic contributors here, can you please tell us a bit more about yourself? You live in Indonesia and are Muslim. What type of muslim? What is your education? What brings you to Peaceful Science and how did you find out about us?
What are the most important things you hope we would understand about you and your beliefs?
I am a 37 year old medical doctor, graduated from one of the state medical university in Indonesia, know medicine since 2001. I did not continue to higher specialist education. I’m just a general practitioner.
I am a Muslim, like most Muslims in Indonesia are Sunni Muslims. Indonesia does not adhere to a certain separation between religion and the government system or state life, nor is it an absolutely secular state. Every citizen is guaranteed the freedom to practice worship according to his religion, especially the five official religions in Indonesia, namely Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, and certain beliefs from China.
I found this forum accidentally from browsing the internet, because I like reading scientific research journals, many scientific fields, especially geology, anthropology, archeology, evolution, and so on.
I hope to explore and understand more of the meaning of the Koran (literal and interpretation/tafsir) through what modern science can observe.
