Research Update on the Alpine Fault

Interesting piece on the applications of Paleoseismology, and how it can have a fairly profound real-world impact. Of course the fact that I live only a couple of hundred km from the Alpine Fault, and according to Google Maps and AF8 predictions are that the whole South Island is at risk of a Magnitude 8 in the next ‘big one’, makes it particularly relevant to me.

I know other major faults are also the subject of paleoseismological research. Has any of this research produced similar warnings, e.g. for a fault near you?

Well, I live a few miles from the San Andreas fault, so yes.
