Note that the genetic variations being discussed here are not single nucleotide substitutions. They are insertions, deletions, duplications, and inversions roughly 50 bp or larger (mostly larger).

Ah, I see your sentence has, ironically, a duplication and deletion, resulting in a substitution of a second “insertion” for the “inversion” that should have been there.
