I’m not sure what to make of this. However, there has always been a high degree of hype in announcements about AI.
This was an interesting bit that I had never considered before:
Many kinds of researchers—biologists, psychologists, anthropologists, and so on—encounter checkpoints at which they are asked about the ethics of their research. This doesn’t happen as much in computer science.
As biologists, we are very accustomed to the routine of thinking about our own ethics and evaluating the ethical practices of our peers.
