Mathematics on Peaceful Science

Continuing the discussion from The Inevitability of Improbability:

I’m a computational biologist my friend. I apply math to biology for a living. You can’t do better than this. @AndyWalsh also is a computational biologist too. @nwrickert is a mathematician. There are also several @physicists, who do math that makes my head spin.

It’s true that we don’t have that many pure mathematicians. It seems that a surprising number of pure mathematicians are religious, compared to scientists, perhaps because of the smaller probability of adopting a scientistic worldview.

Mathematicians, in general, don’t care about anything practically relevant, nor do they care about evolution. Not surprising .

A bit overstated.

Their mathematics might not be concerned with anything practically relevant. But they are humans, with mixture of interests such as you will find in groups of humans.
